I’ve been an Owlcrate subscriber for a little over a year now, and so far, every box that I’ve received has been an absolute delight. Most months, I sneak a peek at other people’s unboxing because I can resist the temptation, but since I deleted my Instagram account, I didn’t have the luxury to look at unboxing pictures. So, everything in this box was awelcomed surprise!
This month’s theme was Power of Illusions, and I’m so excited about everything that came in this box! I love the color scheme and the slightly whimsical and mysterious vibe that the items give.
So without further ado, let’s talk about everything I got in this box!
Caraval inspired tote bag designed by Stella Bookish Art.
Let’s be honest for a few seconds – I cannot resist a cute tote bag. I have WAY too many and could probably dedicate a different tote bag for each day of the month, but I love how unique all the Owlcrate supplied tote bags are! This one is inspired by Caraval, written by Stephanie Garber. The tote was designed by Stella Bookish Art, who designs a ton of adorable things for Owlcrate. I can’t get enough of her art and designs! You can find Stella Bookish Art on Society 6, Etsy, and Instagram, along with many other websites.
The Lunar Chronicles Queen Levana inspired candle designed by Flick the Wick.
Like tote bags, I am literally obsessed with candles. One whole shelf of one of my five bookshelves (yes, you read that correctly. Five bookshelves) is dedicated toward my candle collection, and luckily, Owlcrate provides a ton of candles! This candle is probably one of the best ones I’ve received in an Owlcrate box. The scent is vanilla, blackberries, and fresh greenery. Honestly, it kind of smells like SweeTARTS, and I LOVE it. It’s the perfect mix of sweet and vanilla and warmth. Flick the Wick has amazing candles, and this one is purple – my favorite color! It’s inspired by Queen Levana from The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer. Though I haven’t read this series yet, I have all the books and can’t wait to start reading them! Like I said, I love a good candle, and Flick the Wick never disappoints! You can find their candles on their website, Etsy, and Instagram.
The Crown’s Game inspired wooden ornament designed by Juniper and Ivy Designs.
Another wooden ornament! In last December’s box, there was an ornament inspired by Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon. This ornament, though, is probably one of the most intricately designed items I’ve ever received from an Owlcrate box. The details in the wood are fantastic, and I’ve already put it up in my cubicle at work! Even though there isn’t any color beyond the wood, it’s absolutely gorgeous! Juniper and Ivy Designs does such incredible work – their items often are featured in Owlcrate boxes – and this ornament was a pleasant surprise! This ornament was inspired by The Crown’s Game by Evelyn Skye – a book I have in my TBR pile at home. I’ve heard fantastic things about this book, and I plan to jump into it and its sequel in 2019. You can find Juniper and Ivy Designs on Instagram, on Amazon, and on their website!
The Night Circus inspired magnet designed by Ink and Wonder Designs.
I LOVE THESE MAGNETS! Truly, I do. I got one in an Owlcrate box by Ink and Wonder (I believe it was December 2017) and I love it just as much as this one! Though I’ve never read The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern, I do own it and have been meaning to read it for YEARS. The magnet is so adorable and is on my magnetized dry erase board in my cubicle at work! Ink and Wonder creates the most adorable, whimsical things, and I love everything of theirs that gets included in Owlcrate boxes. Ink and Wonder can be located on Instagram and on their website!
Magical Monthly Reading Planner designed by Blue Star Press.
This is my favorite item in this month’s box! For one, the cover is so soft and beautiful! And two, I’ve been needing something practical to keep up with what I’m reading – which will only help with this blog! This includes places to write down my monthly TBR, the ratings of the books I’ve read, and my general thoughts about each book. It will come in handy once 2019 starts and I get back into the swing of balancing my masters coursework and trying to read for fun! You can find Blue Star Press on Instagram and on this website!
King of Fools chapter sampler by Amanda Foody.
In Owlcrate’s April 2018 box, we received Ace of Shades, Amanda Foody’s first novel in The Shadow Game series. I won’t lie, this is another book I have not read yet, but I have every intention to! It seems as though it will be full of magic and mischief, two things I adore in a book – especially a series! The cover is gorgeous, too. The blue is such a pretty hue, and even though I probably won’t read the chapter sampler, it’ll still sit on my bookshelf along with the first book, and the second, when it’s released. King of Fools is set to be released in 2019.
Amber & Dusk by Lyra Selene
To be honest, I hadn’t heard of this book before I got it. However, it sounds like something right up my alley! I love how Owlcrate changes the cover for the novels they choose – whether it’s something simple or an entire cover change. Purple is my favorite color, so the book’s new aesthetic was completely pleasing to my purple-loving eye!
The Goodreads description for this book is as follows:
“Sylvie has always known she deserves more. Out in the permanent twilight of the Dusklands, her guardians called her power to create illusions a curse. But Sylvie knows it gives her a place in Coeur d’Or, the palais of the Amber Empress and her highborn legacies. So Sylvie sets off toward the Amber City, a glittering jewel under a sun that never sets, to take what is hers.
“But her hope for a better life is quickly dimmed. The empress invites her in only as part of a wicked wager among her powerful courtiers. Sylvie must assume a new name, Mirage, and begin to navigate secretive social circles and deadly games of intrigue in order to claim her spot. Soon it becomes apparent that nothing is as it appears and no one, including her cruel yet captivating sponsor, Sunder, will answer her questions. As Mirage strives to assume what should be her rightful place, she’ll have to consider whether it is worth the price she must pay.”
Can’t wait to dive into this one sometime soon!
