Genres I Want To Read More From

Hey, everyone! I hope you’re having a great day, and I hope your reading in July is going well so far.

There are many genres I want to explore, and there are genres that I’ve dabbled in, but haven’t fully immersed in and want to read more from. I’ve read some books from each of these genres, but not enough to where I fully feel comfortable giving recommendations. As a reader and a blogger, of course I want to expand on the genres/books I read. So, I’m giving you the top eight genres I want to read more books from, along with three books from these genres that are my most anticipated reads. These are listed in no particular order.

I hope you enjoy!

1. Fantasy

I’ll admit that I haven’t read much Fantasy, but what I have read, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed. I really want to dive further into this genre and explore all the content that’s out there right now. Three of my most anticipated reads are as follows:
-The Bloodlines Series by Richelle Mead
-The Throne of Glass Series by Sarah J. Maas
-The Daughter of Smoke and Bone Trilogy by Laini Taylor

2. Dystopian

I know the Dystopian phase has risen and died, but I never got a chance to fully delve into this genre. I’ve read a few popular series, such as the Divergent Trilogy and The Hunger Games Trilogy, but I never had the chance to read much more than that. I’d like to read more than those two, so I definitely plan to read some of the popular books and series that were floating around awhile back. Three of my most anticipated reads for the Dystopian genre are the following:
-The Legend Trilogy by Marie Lu
-The Delirium Trilogy by Lauren Oliver
-The Selection Series by Kiera Cass

3. Thriller

My one Thriller that I’ve read is Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn and I devoured it. I definitely want to read more from this genre because I find it highly fascinating and a bit terrifying. It’s insane to me that an author, who’s completely sane, can create such a twisted and insane story. Three books I want to read as soon as possible are:
-The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins
-Night Film by Marisha Pessl
-The Cuckoo’s Calling by Robert Galbraith

4. Memoir

I really love Memoirs. I took a class in college where we read a lot of Memoirs, and ever since then, I’ve been in love with the genre. I’m not sure if it’s because it’s true stories or because the people who write them have led such interesting lives, but the writing and the quality of these books are phenomenal. I eventually want to have an entire shelf dedicated to this genre. Three Memoirs I want to read are:
-The Bassoon King by Rainn Wilson
-Why Not Me? by Mindy Kaling
-Bossy Pants by Tina Fey

5. Historical Fiction

I also took a class in college where we read Historical Fiction novels. Really, being an English major was a lot like being a History major as well. I fell in love with some of the books that we read, and I’d really like to read more from this genre. I especially loved the WWII era books. Books from this genre that I’m interested in are:
-The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
-All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr
-Outlander by Diana Gabaldon

6. Graphic Novels

I’ve never been a big Graphic Novel person. I’m not sure why because the art in them is amazing. I need to give this genre a try – I need to expand my horizons and join the hype about Graphic Novels. So, three books that I’m willing to read to jump into this genre are:
-Soppy: A Love Story by Philippa Rice
-The Infernal Devices Manga by Cassandra Clare; illustrated by Hye-Kyung Baek
-Saga, the Collected Editions by Brian K. Vaughan

7. Science Fiction

Again, I’ve never been a huge Sci-Fi fan, but recently, I know some outstanding Sci-Fi has been produced – especially within the Young Adult book community. There has been tons of hype surrounding certain books and series, and three of which that has been loved that I want to read are:
-The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer
-The Shatter Me Trilogy by Tahereh Mafi
-Ready Player One by Earnest Cline

8. Young Adult Contemporary

And finally, I want to give my favorite genre some more attention: YA Contemporary. This is the genre that I mostly read, but I feel as though I’ve been neglecting some of the greats in this genre. I’ve been gravitating toward New Adult and Romance, but I’ve abandoned by YA roots. Three YA Contemporaries that get tons of attention that are on my must-read list are:
-Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
-Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson
-To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before and P.S. I Still Love You by Jenny Han

There you go! Those are the genres I want to read more books from. Let me know some books in these genres that you’ve read and enjoyed!

See you guys next time, and happy reading!
